Maldives holds fresh election for president.

Saturday, 09 November 2013 - 9:59

Voters in the Maldives are set to go to the polls to elect a president after two previous rounds failed.

Candidates came to a last-minute agreement earlier this week to sign the voter lists required for the election to take place.

It is the first vote in the Indian Ocean archipelago since ex-President Mohamed Nasheed was forced from office in 2012, sparking a political crisis.

Tensions are high after one vote was annulled and a re-run halted by police.
