President Mahinda Rajapaksa says that what the country’s people seek for now, is not just some form of peace but permanent peace and reconciliation.

The President points out that he is working towards progress in the country becoming the regional hub.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa said so while participating at the inauguration of the Commonwealth People’s Forum.

The Commonwealth People’s Forum was inaugurated at the Galle Fortress last afternoon.

The President said that according to the Commonwealth Comparative Report 2013 Sri Lanka occupies the 15th position among Commonwealth countries and 68th position among world’s nations.

The Commonwealth Youth Forum commenced today in Hambantota under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Commonwealth Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma.

The Youth Forum sees the participation of 130 youth representatives from 79 countries and 20 observers as well.

The President addressing the summit highlighted the importance of the youth’s role in securing the sustenance of the commonwealth.

The President stated that during Sri lanka’s tenure of guiding the commonwealth for the next 2 years while protecting its core values, Sri Lanka will take optimum measures to provide constructive and meaningful opportunities to the commonwealth youth delegates.

Commonwealth Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma addressing the summit stated that the youth had an amazing opportunity to push forward their views.

Commonwealth Youth Forum commences in Hambantota

The Commonwealth Youth Forum commenced today in Hambantota under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Commonwealth Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma.

The Youth Forum sees the participation of 106 youth representatives from 41 countries and 20 observers as well.

Minister of Youth Affairs and Skills Development Dallas Alahapperuma welcomed those present at the Forum.

Commonwealth Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma addressing the summit stated that the youth had an amazing opportunity to push forward their views.

The President addressing the summit highlighted the importance of the youth’s role in securing the sustenance of the commonwealth.

Activities of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting under the them Growth with Equity will kick off today.

The Youth Forum will commence in Hambantota and the Public forum will commence in Hikkaduwa today.

The Youth Forum which will open under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Commonwealth Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma at the Ruhunu Magampura Conference Hall in Hambantota will see the participation of 106 youth representatives from 41 countries.

Meanwhile, the Commonwealth Public Forum will kick off at the Galle Fort and the Summit will be held in Hikkaduwa.

The motive of the forum is to bring out the views of the people of participating countries and communicate them to the Heads of Government meeting via the respective foreign ministers.
