Chairman of the Business Council Mohan Cole, who addressed the Commonwealth Business Forum, stated that Sri Lanka’s economy is the 2nd most developing economy of Asia.

The People’s forum is currently being held in Galle parallel to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

The People’s forum which began last Sunday is scheduled to conclude tomorrow.

150 foreign representatives are taking part in the forum and 250 representatives from Sri Lanka are also taking part.

Speaking to our news team the chairman of the subcommittee of the Commonwealth Public Forum Dr. Lalith Chandradasa stated that the social and civil issues faced by the countries taking part in the forum were discussed during the forum.

Meanwhile, representatives from foreign countries are continuing to arrive in the country for CHOGM 2013.

The President of Nauru, Baron Waqa arrived in the island to take part in the summit today.

In addition the Ministry of External Affairs stated that foreign ministers of Uganda, Brunei, Jamaica, Camaroon and Seychelles also arrived in the island today.

The Pakistani High Commission in Sri Lanka stated that the Pakistani Premier Nawaz Shariff is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka day after tomorrow.

2000 delegates present at the CBF, James Packer is among them


President Mahinda Rajapaksa said that short-sighted economic policies and wrong hypotheses extensively caused the recent pessimistic trend of the global economy.

He expressed these views during his address to the Commonwealth Business Forum that inaugurated on the sidelines of the CHOGM in Colombo today.

The Commonwealth Business Forum which started today on the theme of ‘The Partnership for generating wealth,  Social development, Indian Ocean Region of the Commonwealth and SAARC’ will continue until 14th of this month.

2000 leading businessmen including 700 foreign delegates are taking part in the Forum and this Forum is the largest of its kind to be held in the island.

Commonwealth Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma, Commonwealth Business Council President Dr. Mohan Koal, Australian Casino baron James Packer and other 20 Australian businessmen participated.

Meanwhile James Packer is scheduled to address the Commonwealth Business Forum tomorrow.

The President inaugurates the CBF - calls for unity in order to achieve prosperity


The Commonwealth Business Forum organized on the sidelines of the CHOGM was officially inaugurated by President Mahinda Rajapaksa in Colombo this morning.

 

Addressing the gathering President Rajapaksa stressed that all Commonwealth members should get together in order to achieve prosperity of the Commonwealth.

 

He also pointed out that the Commonwealth Business Forum is important for 3 reasons.

 

President Rajapaksa speaking further said that Sri Lanka expects to stand a role model in the region.

 

Addressing the gathering External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peries said that the special feature of the forum is the participation of 30 non member countries in the forum.

The Conference will be held until 14th of this month.

President inaugurates Commonwealth Business Forum

The Commonwealth Business Forum was inaugurated by President Mahinda Rajapaksa a short while ago.

The ceremony will be held until 10.30 a.m. and the CBF will take place from today to November 14th in conjunction with the CHOGM.

The Forum is the premier business event in the Commonwealth bringing together Heads of Government, Ministers, and top business leaders from around the world and will be attended by over a thousand delegates.

Commonwealth Business forum begins today. CHOGM - 2013

The Commonwealth Business Forum will be ceremonially opened at 9 a.m. today in Colombo with the participation of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, marking the third day of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

The ceremony will be held until 10.30 a.m. and the CBF will take place from today to November 14th in conjunction with the CHOGM.

The CBF is the premier business event in the Commonwealth bringing together Heads of Government, ministers and top business leaders from around the world.

The CBF will be attended by over 1,000 delegates.

It will provide a valuable opportunity for dialogue on trade and investment between business and government leaders from the Commonwealth.

The United Kingdom will be fielding the biggest ever business delegation for the CHOGM business forum to be held this week.

The team will include some of the cream of the British business leaders and the delegation has over 100 business persons.

Secretary of the Investment promotion Ministry M M C Ferdinando stated that Sri Lanka will gain many benefits through the CBF.
