The members of the Canadian delegation arrived in the country for CHOGM toured in Jaffna today.

 

During the tour, they had discussions with Northern Provincial Governor G.A. Chandrasiri, Northern Provincial Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran and Jaffna
Archbishop Thomas Saundranayagam.

  

Meanwhile before leaving for the CHOGM in Colombo, Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop told local media that the Commonwealth Summit was a good opportunity for Sri Lanka.

 

She said that Sri Lanka can convince the world its commitments towards bringing about reconciliation in the society after the island ended the war in 2009.

 

Meanwhile, Over 300 MDMK activists, including its General Secretary Vaiko were, arrested for blocking train traffic as the dawn-to-dusk Tamil Nadu bandh called by pro-Eelam outfits demanding that India completely boycott CHOGM meet in Colombo got underway.

Over 300 MDMK activists, including its General Secretary Vaiko were, arrested for blocking train traffic as the dawn-to-dusk Tamil Nadu bandh called by pro-Eelam outfits demanding that India completely boycott CHOGM meet in Colombo got underway.

 

Reports reaching Chennai suggested that traders shut their shops in some parts of the state.

 

Even as Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh decided to skip the meet, the appointment of External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid to lead a delegation at CHOGM did not go well with few pro-Eelam outfits in the state.
