World famous casino mogul James Packer states that Sri Lanka can be made into the shining centre of Asia.


He made this statement while speaking at the Commonwealth Business Forum held in Colombo today.


The theme of the 2nd day of the business forum in which approximately 2000 individuals are taking part in was “Turning point in Trade in the 21st Century”.


James Packer has become a character that is much talked about due to his plans to build an integrated resort in Sri Lanka at the cost of 400 million US dollars.


Although journalists attempted to inquire from James Packer regarding his proposed investment after the forum, it was to no avail.


Minister Basil Rajapakse also visited the CHOGM media centre this afternoon to observe its activities.


During his visit Minister Basil Rajapakse was queried by Indian journalists as to what facilities have been given to the Tamil populace in the country and the minister responded in the following manner to those queries.


Minister stated that Sri lankan Tamils are better off than Tamil Nadu Tamils.


Meanwhile, the Agricultural and Trade Exhibition organized by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the ‘Our Village’ programme organized at the Jana Kala Centre, parallel to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting was declared open today by President Mahinda Rajapakse.

James Packer addresses Commonwealth Business Forum

The Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group Committee meeting scheduled to be held parallel with the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting began at the BMICH this morning.


Meanwhile, the people’s forum held parallel to CHOGM 2013 concluded a short while ago with the closing ceremony of the session which was held in Hikkaduwa.


Civil and social issues that affect the zone were discussed during this forum which began on the 10th with the participation of approximately 400 local and foreign representatives.


During the forum a draft that was compiled based on the issues discussed over the 4 days of the forum was approved by the zonal representatives today.


The Commonwealth Business Forum which began yesterday is continuing today.


James Packer, the billionaire casino mogul addressed the gathering today.


During his address Packer stated that Sri Lanka has great value in terms of investment and tourism and that he is very keen to invest in Sri Lanka.


Meanwhile, the Commonwealth Foreign Ministers Summit is scheduled to begin this afternoon.


Currently a large number of representatives from foreign nations have arrived in the country to take part in the summit.
