Video: Protests banned in Colombo for 4 days starting today

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has issued an order preventing protests and protest marches in Colombo in lieu of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.


Police media spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana stated that the Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya issued this order after taking into consideration a request made by the police.


Meanwhile, the police headquarters stated that several roads will be closed from time to time tonight due to the arrival of several state leaders who are taking part in CHOGM 2013.


Accordingly, traffic will be restricted along the Colombo – Katunayaka expressway, Baseline road, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, from Bambalapitiya junction to the old parliament via Galle road and also along Lotus road and the Chiththampalam A. Gardiner mawatha.


Traffic will be restricted along these roads between 7pm and 8pm and from 11.30pm till 1am tonight.

Curfew reimposed from 2.00pm will continue until further notice.
