President Mahinda Rajapakse states that reconciliation cannot be obtained overnight after the conclusion of the 30 year war and that it would take a certain period of time.

President Rajapakse made this statement while speaking during the press conference held at the conclusion of the summit.

Elaborating further President Rajapakse also stated that a number of countries including Commonwealth member states, the European Union and China have helped Sri lanka in its development.

The Commonwealth Secretary General, South African President Jacob Zuma and the Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Malaysia also took part in this press conference.

Malta likely to host next Commonwealth Summit - Official statement today

Malta is to host the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in 2015 following a unanimous decision this morning by the Commonwealth heads of government.

 

The unexpected decision was taken during the current CHOGM in Sri Lanka which is being attended by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat.

 

Malta showed interest in hosting the event after the expected host, Mauritius, withdrew.

 

Malta also hosted CHOGM in 2005.
