The Sri Lanka Government Medical Laboratory Technologists’ Union says that blood testing at the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital will be completely stopped as a result of the non-availability of chemical medications used for full blood test carried out on behalf of patients.

The union chairman Jaanaka Nishaantha said that this situation had cropped up because of non-payment of money amounting to 14 million rupees due to be paid to companies importing the chemical medications.

Our news team inquired about this from the Health Ministry.

In response to this a senior Ministry spokesman said that instruction had been given to the Medical Supplies Division to provide the relevant chemical medications to the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital immediately.

The spokesman said further that this situation had arisen as a result of the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital Administrative Authorities not informing the Medical Supplies Division about the shortage of chemical medications.
