The police say that details have been uncovered about a traffic of extorting ransom operated by prisoners.  

 

Participating at media briefing held in Colombo yesterday, Police Media spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that by now 47 complaints relevant to this had been lodged with the Colombo Crimes Division alone.

 

The police media spokesman points out that this traffic is carried out via phone using names of persons holding top positions in Government institutions including the police.  

 

Police Media spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that, therefore, the public should act with vigilance with regard to this.

 

Police Media spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said further that this traffic was carried out using the names of officers holding top positions in the police department as well.
