The Telecommunication Regulatory Commission stated that telephone charges will go-up to 20 percent due to the Telecommunication Tax was increased by 5 percent in the budget.

Telecommunication Regulatory Commission Director General Anusha Palpita said that mobile and fixed line telephone charges will be increased by 5 percent with effect from next January.

However Internet and Broadband charges will not be revised.

Meanwhile vehicles importers stated that prices of used vehicles have to be increased extensively due to the new budget tax revision on vehicle depreciation.

The Lanka Vehicle Importers Association stated that the price of a used vehicle will go up at least by 300 thousand rupees as the budget proposals have withdrawn the 20 percent concession on the used vehicles import.

Lanka Vehicle Importers Association President Sampath Merinchige said that the prices of vans, imported under duty free permits will also be increased significantly.

Call charges and prices of used vehicles increased.

Voice call charges on fixed lines and mobile phones will be increased by 5% in line with the telecom levy increase proposed in the budget.

Prices of used vehicles will be increased by Rs.3 Lakhs upwards as depreciation value for used motor vehicles revised from the budget.
