Unidentified US national held by North Korea

Saturday, 23 November 2013 - 9:56

North Korea has acknowledged that it is holding an American national.

The captive's identity has not been confirmed as consular access has not been granted.

The disclosure comes amid concern for Merrill Newman, who was reportedly detained weeks ago in North Korea.

Newman's family have appealed to Pyongyang to free him, saying there has been "some dreadful misunderstanding" and that he may need medication.
