The International Maritime Security Conference, “Galle Dialogue 2013”, organized by the Sri Lanka Navy under the aegis of the Ministry of Defence, gets underway in the port city of Galle today for the fourth consecutive year.

Local and foreign scholars and experts in maritime and naval affairs representing 35 countries are expected to share their views at this two-day dialogue held under the theme, “Emerging Maritime Trends in the Indian Ocean.

Secretary of Defence, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa will deliver the keynote address at the inaugural session where the welcome remarks will be made by Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage.

During the first session, Secretary to the President, Lalith Weeratunga will also address the gathering

The “Galle Dialogue” initiative, inaugurated in 2010, created a forum to discuss and exchange views on regional maritime security concerns.

Indian Navy Chief to attend Galle Dialogue 2013


Chief of Naval Staff of the Indian Navy, Admiral DK Joshi is scheduled to attend the Galle Dialogue 2013 to be held in the Port City of Galle on 25th and 26th.

His graceful participation in the international maritime security conference organized by the Sri Lanka Navy under the aegis of the Ministry of Defence is symbolic of the goodwill between the two friendly Navies and the highest regard accorded to the Sri Lanka's initiative in fostering strategic maritime cooperation in the Indian Ocean.

Admiral Devendra Kumar Joshi took over as the 21st Chief of Naval Staff of the Indian Navy with effect from 31st August 2012.

He is a specialist in Anti-Submarine Warfare and has a distinguished service spanning nearly 38 years during which he has served in a variety of Command, Staff and Instructional appointments.
