Customs nab a daughter, her mother and Grandmother trying to smuggle stock of gold.

The Sri Lanka Airport Customs have arrested a grandmother, mother and daughter of the same family who attempted to smuggle gold from Sri Lanka to Chennai in India.

The arrested parties who were scheduled to depart for Chennai at 2.30am hail from the Kalubowila region.

The grandmother is 53 years old, while the mother and the daughter are 37 and 15 years old respectively.

The 3 arrested individuals were wearing unfinished gold jewelry worth 3.38 million rupees which included 10 gold bangles and 3 chains.

The jewelry has been confiscated for tests and the two elder women were each fined 10 thousand rupees each.

Due to this the Sri Lanka Customs has decided to limit the amount of gold jewelry a person can wear when travelling abroad from Sri Lanka.
