Is military evidence necessary for Rathupaswala magistrate inquiry - decision this afternoon.
Gampaha Chief Magistrate Tikiri Jayatilaka said that the decision of whether the army witnesses are summoned before the Magistrate inquiry will be announced at 12.15 this afternoon.
The Magistrate made this announcement this morning when the inquiry in connection with the death of 3 persons during the shooting at a demonstration at Rathupaswala was opened.
SSP Nuwan Wedisinghe of the Colombo Crime Division and his officials appeared before the Court today.
Our correspondent said that 2 army officers also appeared in the Court to give evidence.
When the Magistrate asked on what basis the army personnel were produced to give evidence, Colombo Crime Division OIC, C I Nevil de Silva said they were summoned to give evidence on the firing of gun shots.
Later the Magistrate said that the inquiry is held for a long period and military evidence should be necessary only if something is revealed out of the process.
Then the Chief Magistrate said in the open Court that he will announce whether military evidence is necessary at 12.15 this afternoon.
