One dead due to explosion in Thambuttegama

A 59 year old individual died as a result of an explosion that took place in the Thambuttegama – Musalpitiya region this afternoon.

The Police Media Unit stated that the police suspect a hand grenade was the cause of the explosion.

The deceased individual who was mentally ill has had a habit of collecting garbage and setting the garbage on fire where he lives.

The explosion occurred while he was engaging in burning garbage and had perished on the spot due to the explosion.
