The Ministry of local government and provincial council is planning to provide a special training for local government representatives on financial management and preparing budgets for local government institutions.

The Ministry points out that due to financial management shortcomings local government institutions are facing several obstacles.

During the past couple of days the budget was defeated in several local government institutions.

The 2014 budget of the UPFA controlled Meerigama Pradeshiya Sabha was defeated for a 2nd time with a majority of 21 votes yesterday.

Only the chairman of the Pradeshiya Sabha voted for the proposed budget.

The proposed 2014 budget for the Meerigama Pradeshiya Sabha was defeated by a majority of 19 votes the first time when it was presented for the first time on the 20th of this month.

Meanwhile, the Peliyagoda Urban Council was also defeated for a second time by 3 votes on the 27th.

The budget was defeated by 3 votes the first time it was presented on the 19th as well.

Secretary to the local government and provincial council Ministry R A K Rathnayaka stated that a special training will be provided to local government representatives regarding financial management to minimise issues.
