UN Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons to arrive in the island today.

The UN’s special rapporteur on the human rights of internally displaced persons Dr. Chalokaa Beyaani is scheduled to arrive in the island today.

Resettlement Ministry Secretary Janaka Sugathadaasa said while the UN special representative would remain in the country for six days, he was scheduled to meet people displaced due to the war.

In addition he will hold discussions with several Government Ministers including Foreign Minister G. L. Peiris.

While the UN’s special representative is scheduled to tour the North and Mullaitiv, he is also due to inspect the relief camps.
