Former Deputy Chairman of Dehi Ovita PS and 3 others jailed for 15 years

Former Deputy Chairman of the Dehi Ovita Pradeshiya Sabha, Priyantha Udaya Kumara alias Dedegama Priyantha and 3 others were sentenced to 15 years in jail by Kegalle High Court Judge Menakaa Wijesundara today.

In addition, the convicts were fined 10,000 rupees each, and sentenced to another 3 years in jail unless they pay the fine.

Former Deputy Chairman of the Dehi Ovita Pradeshiya Sabha and others were given the sentence after they were found guilty for way lading a lorry of sand at Naapaawala in Avissawella in 2004.

Meanwhile the enjoining order on the actions of the one-man Committee appointed to inquire into the functions of the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha was extended once again today.

Colombo High Court Judge Preethi Padman Surasena extended the enjoining order until the 19th of March next year.

The one-man Commission to examine activities of the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha was appointed by Western Provincial Council Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga.
