Video : Customs seizes ethanol worth 82 million rupees

74,480 litres of Ethanol that was illegally imported to Sri Lanka have been found inside 7 containers that were confiscated by the Customs last Friday.

Director of the Preventive arm and Media Spokesperson of Customs Leslie Gamini stated that the illegal cache of Ethanol was discovered following an inspection of the containers this morning.

Speaking further he stated that the Ethanol was imported to Sri Lanka under the guise of importing tar and the value of the seized cache of Ethanol is 82 million rupees.

Elaborating further the Customs spokesperson stated that an individual has been arrested in connection with the import and the cache of Ethanol was imported for a chemical factory in the Bandaragama region.
