New laws with regard to children as well

Justice Minister Rauff Hakeem says that certain laws pertaining to children will be amended.

The Minister pointed out that for this purpose, the Justice Ministry was even now taking steps to formulate new laws.

The Minister said so after a discussion with Sri Lanka’s permanent representative of UN Children’s Fund Uunaa Maclay.

Justice Minister Rauff Hakeem points out that action will be taken at the beginning of next year to amend also   ordinances pertaining in particular to children and those in the adolescent age group.

As a result of children being produced before court when they commit offences they have also faced situations of mental agony.

Therefore the Minister also  said that a new set of laws that were implemented without producing children before court would be formulated
