Statements have been obtained from 5 railway workers in connection with the runaway incident yesterday of an unmanned railway engine.

A Railway Department Spokesman said that the General Manager will take future actions once he receives the report from the special Committee appointed to probe the incident.

A stationary Vike-class engine at the Dematagoda Railway Yard which was used to control railway engines for the last 50 years, ran on the Southern Coastal line via Fort Railway Station at 1.45am yesterday.

However, some railway workers managed to stop the engine on the way between Mount Lavinia and Ratmalana Stations.

Later a 3-member Committee was appointed to probe the incident.
