Novel racket of exporting copper and brass, exposed

Today is the 8th day of the committee stage debate on the 2014 budget.

Heads of expenditure of Traditional industries and small enterprise development, Agriculture, water resource management and industry and commerce ministries are being debated on. 

DNA MP Sunil Handuneththi addressing parliament pointed out that although exporting copper and brass is prohibited through a gazette notification there is a racket in which these metals are transformed into certain export products.

However Deputy Minister Weerakumara Dissanyaka addressing the chambers said that he refutes the opposition’s claim of the county’s industrial collapse.
