60 million rupees worth gems and gold confiscated

Sri Lanka Air Port Customs has arrested an individual who had attempted to illegally smuggle gold and gems worth 64 million rupees.

The arrested individual who is a gem exporter from the Galle region had attempted to smuggle gems and gold sheets in two boxes to Chennai in India.

One of the confiscated boxes had contained gems weighing 63 thousand 276 carats worth 47 million rupees and the other box had contained gems and 8 pieces of gold worth 17 million rupees.
