The Organization to protect and promote factory employment in the Gampaha District organized a protest march and a demonstration demanding the re-opening of the controversial Rathupaswala glove factory.

Our correspondent said that employees of the Rathupaswala glove factory which was found to be the root cause of the water contamination issue in the area, and a few residents participated in this protest march.

The protesters assembled at the Rathupaswala sports ground this morning and proceed to Gampaha Railway station via Miriswatta junction.

Later the protesters attempted to proceed towards the office of Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa to hand over a petition to the Minister.

However, a Minister’s representative met the protesters at the Railway Station and received the petition on behalf of the Minister.
