President Mahinda Rajapaksa, concluding a successful four-day state visit to the Republic of Kenya returned to the island last night.

President Rajapakse and President of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta presided over the signing ceremony of eight memorandums of understanding at the State House in Nairobi on Saturday.

Before the signing ceremony, the two leaders held bi-lateral talks on further strengthening ties between the two nations and enhancing cooperation in a number of sectors, including economic, trade, investment, education and technology.

President graced the celebrations commemorating the Golden Jubilee Anniversary of Kenya’s independence on 12th December.

The President also visited the United Nations Office at Nairobi, which is the U.N headquarters in Africa and the second largest United Nations complex outside of New York.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa stated that Sri Lanka’s foreign policy was aligned to renew friendships with African and other regional countries.

The President stated that he resorted to this policy following his appointed in the year 2005.

President Rajapaksa expressed these views when he met with his Kenyan counterpart Uhuru Kenyatta yesterday in Nairobi.

The Sri Lankan President also stated that his motive was to guide the commonwealth to achieve economic goals rather than political objectives.

Attention was also drawn on corporation with regard to the Tea industry.
