Police says that the deaths of a mother and her 2 children in Gandara have been confirmed a suicide.

Special Judicial Medical Officer D.D. Samaraweera who held the post mortem at the Matara hospital this morning confirmed the deaths of the three were a suicide.

The deceased were identified as a 29-year old mother and 9-year old daughter and 7-year old son.

A special police team began investigations into the deaths yesterday, and according to the statements given by the neighbors, the husband of the dead mother had abandoned the family about 6 months ago.

Police investigations revealed that the dead mother had told her neighbors on several occasions that she would commit suicide due to economic difficulties.

Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana told our news team that the post mortem confirmed the deaths of the three persons were a suicide.

Gandara incident suspected to be a suicide after murder

The post mortem of the bodies of a mother and her 2 children found in a house at Gandara yesterday is being held at the Matara hospital.

The deceased were identified as a 29-year old mother and 9-year old daughter and 7-year old son.

A special police team began investigations into the deaths yesterday, and according to the statements given by the neighbors, the husband of the deceased mother had abandoned the family about 6 months ago.

Police investigations revealed that the dead mother had told her neighbors on several occasions that she would commit suicide due to economic difficulties.

A senior officer of the Matara police said that investigators suspect the mother had arranged the 2 children to be strangled first, and committed suicide later.

A police team has also deployed to the area where the husband of the dead woman is living in order to question the man in connection with the incident.

A senior officer of the investigation team told our news team that only the post mortem would decide whether the deaths of these mother and 2 children are suicides or murders.

Bodies of a young mother and her seven year old son and nine year old daughter were found hanging in a house in Gandara, Matara yesterday.

Police media spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana speaking to our news team stated that investigations are underway with regard to the incident.
