The tusker which roamed in the areas of Deeghawapiya and Buddhangala in Ampara was found dead in a paddy field at Walathapitiya in Ampara this morning.

Wild Life Resources Conservation Minister Vijith Vijithamuni Soyza said the 30-year old tusker died of gunshots.

However a post mortem of the carcass is being held.

Our news team contacted Minister Vijith Vijithamuni Soyza to comment on the incident and he said that the human elephant conflict is the main cause to incidents of this nature.
