Minister Dallas Alahapperuma says that the SLFP has not yet taken a decision to suspend the party membership of the local government members who voted with the Opposition to defeat their budgets.

He told our news team that the matter will be taken for discussion during the SLFP Executive Committee meeting to be held tomorrow.

As at present Budgets of 14 local government institutions were defeated.

Authority to solve the Local Government budget crisis given to the SLFP - Cabinet decides.

The cabinet decided at its meeting held yesterday to authorize the SLFP to solve the problem of the defeat of budgets of local government institutions.

A Government Minister told our news team that extensive discussion was held at the cabinet meeting held yesterday with regard to budgets being lost at a number of SLFP administered local Government institutions.

On this occasion while several ministers had requested for President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s intervention for solving the problem, the President replied that the authority to resolve the problem had been given to the SLFP.

At this meeting discussion was also held with several reasons for local Government budgets facing defeat thus.

It had been discussed at the meeting that preferential vote issues that exist between Local Government Authority Chairman and Vice Chairman , corruption and irregularities on the part of certain chairmen and the interventions of electoral organizers  were the reasons for this situation.
