Vocalist Amal Perera told police that one of his local friends in Maldives tried to buy the albino sea turtle from the Kosgoda Turtle Conservation Center for a spiritual performance on a Maldivian politician.

Police has obtained a statement from Amal Perera for 3 hours when he reported to police this morning.

Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that further investigations are continued with regard to the turtle theft.

During a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday, owner of the albino turtle Chandrasiri Aabru said that Amal Perera requested him several times to give the animal to one of his friends serving in the Maldives Islands.

Meanwhile vocalist Amal Perera also held a media briefing in Colombo.

Speaking during the briefing Amal Perera said that he is not aware of the disappearance of the albino turtle.

Vocalist Amal Perera reports to Kosgoda police this morning in order to give a statement in connection with the albino turtle theft in the Turtle Conservation Center in Kosgoda.

A senior police officer said that Perera accompanied a group of lawyers, and police took a statement from the vocalist.

The turtle was stolen from the Center on Sunday night, and Amal Perera did not report to police yesterday saying that he had to attend a wedding ceremony.

Has the stolen turtle been smuggled to the Maldives - Amal visits Conservation Centre with a Maldivian recently

Wildlife Resources Conservation Minister Vijith Vijithamuni Soyza said that he believed the stolen albino turtle could be smuggled to Maldives.

During a media briefing held at the Wildlife Resources Conservation Ministry today, owner of the Turtle Conservation Center Chandrasiri Aabru said that vocalist Amal Perera asked him to give the animal to one of his friends from Maldives.

He said that on one occasion, Amal Perera brought his Maldivian friend to the Center to show the albino turtle.

The albino turtle was stolen last Sunday night, and the vocalist Amal Perera was summoned to Kosgoda Police to make a statement regarding the matter. But he had not appeared at the Kosgoda Police today.

However, Amal Perera told our news team that he will visit Kosgoda Police tomorrow to make a statement.

Speaking during a media briefing, the subject Minister Vijith Wijayamuni Soyza said that the Police do not have a right to raid private turtle conservation centers.

Kosgoda Police said that vocalist Amal Perera wanted in connection with the theft of an albino turtle from a Turtle Research Center did not report to give a statement today.

However Amal Perera told our news team that he would go to Kosgoda police tomorrow to make the statement.

The albino turtle was stolen from the Center on Sunday night and the owners of the Center said that several parties including vocalist Amal Perera recently bid for the albino turtle.

Vocalist Amal Perera was summoned to the Kosgoda Police Station to make a statement.

A senior Police officer said that in case he does not turn up at the police station tomorrow, he will be taken into custody.

Meanwhile, if the turtle has been sent out of the country, the Wildlife Conservation Department said that they will take measures to inform the Interpol regarding the case.
