Preparation for amending the local government Act - Attention at the SLFP Central Council.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa says that if it becomes necessary he hopes to amend the local government Act.
The SLFP Central Council meeting was held at Temple Trees last afternoon.
The Presidential Media Division said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa asserted this while participating at the meeting.
On this occasion the President had said that as a result of budget defeats in certain local government institutions, attempt was made to show that there was crisis within the Government.
However at this meeting the President had pointed that there was no crisis at all within the Government.
Speaking further on this occasion President Mahinda Rajapaksa said that he was even prepared to take action to amend the local government Act again and restore the earlier Act.
Meanwhile the UPFA has decided to nominate someone out of the councilors who had voted for the budget when selecting a new chairman for local government authorities where budget was defeated twice.
In addition reports say that that it was decided at the Central Council that no decision had been taken always to appoint the vice chairman as chairman of defeated local Government institutions.
On this occasion the President had said that the Western, Southern and Uva Provincial council elections would definitely be held within next year.
The Presidential Media Division said that apart from this no attention had been paid at this meeting with regard to a national election
