An incident of five children living inside their home without food for five days at  Ihalagama in Eppawala was reported to our news team.

That was because the father had left leaving them alone in the house even without their mother.

The father had told them that his mother, their grandmother would come to look after them.

Among children thus abandoned were two boys aged 13 and 14 years and two eight year old boy and girl. The youngest  is a three-year old girl.

About an year ago these children’s mother had left the house saying that she was going abroad.

However police investigations have so far not confirmed definitively that she had gone abroad.

When the Eppaawala police went to the relevant house on a tip-off the 119 unit received, the eight year old twin boy was in a severe condition due not taking food for several days.

It is said that while the police had admitted the child to the Eppawala Base Hospital, subsequently the child had been transferred to the Anuradhapura general hospital.

The Eppaawala police also said further that the children’s father suffers from a mental illness.
