Video : Plans to arrest all Indian fishing vessels violating border
Deputy Minister of Fisheries Sarath Kumara Gunarathna stated that all Indian fishing vessels violating the maritime boundary in large numbers shall be taken in to custody if a peaceful solution is not reached on the Indo – Sri Lanka fishermens issue.
At once hundreds of Indian vessels invade the Sri Lankan seas and only a handful of them can be taken in to custody.
The Deputy Minister stated that in order to arrest all these vessels a massive operation needs to be carried out.
Hence he stated that the advice of the Attorney Generals Department has been sought in this regard.
At present around 120 Sri Lankan fishermen and 40 vessels are in Indian custody.
Meanwhile, 426 Indian fishermen have been arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy.
