Western and Southern PCs to be dissolved on the 8th, 11th or 12th - Election to be held on 22nd or 29th of March

Monday, 23 December 2013 - 19:24

Sources close to the government stated that Provincial Council elections could probably be held either on the 22nd or 29th of March next year in the Southern and Western provinces.

Earlier certain unofficial reports stated that the 2 PCs were believed to be dissolved on the 28th of December in order to hold elections on the 8th of March.

Having taken the forthcoming Christmas festival into consideration, authorities have now postponed the dissolving date possibly to January 8th, 11th or 12th.

Meanwhile Deputy Election Commissioner M.M. Mohammad said that within a week, since the date of dissolving a PC, a gazette notification should be released calling nominations for new elections.

At the same time, an election should also be held within 10 to 12 weeks since the date of dissolving a PC.

The Deputy Commissioner also said that the process of the 2013 voters registration list is to be certified on the 31st of this month thereby enabling all the registered voters to cast their vote in the forthcoming Southern and Western PC elections.
