Update :Video: First suspect of Matara Kananke acid attack arrested

Police arrested the first suspect of the Matara Kananke acid attack this afternoon.

Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that the victim and the suspect have served together in the army sometime ago and the motive of the acid attack was a perverted affair.

The victim had resigned from the service while the suspect had deserted her job.

The mother of the suspected woman army deserter was also arrested for aiding and abetting her daughter to commit the crime.

Later she was produced before Matara Magistrate and remanded.

The acid attack was unleashed on a 56-year old mother and her 27-year old daughter at the Puhulahena Junction in Kananke Matara on last Tuesday.

The mother was later transferred from Karapitiya hospital to Colombo National Hospital for further treatment.

However she was pronounced dead of her severe injuries later.

The daughter who also received severe burn injuries on her face is still receiving treatment at Karapitiya hospital.

Investigations commence to arrest the woman army deserter who threw acid on Kananke mother and daughter

The Police have commenced investigation in pursuit of the main female suspect who has allegedly attacked a mother and daughter with acid at Puhula-hena, Kananke in Matara.

The Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana told our news team that they have uncovered the details of the main suspect is an army deserter.

The police have arrested the suspect’s mother yesterday, who allegedly aided and abated the suspect to commit the crime.

The police arrested a woman suspected of having thrown acid on a mother and her daughter at Puhul-hena in Kanangkeh in Matara.

The Kanankeh police said that this woman had by now been produced before court.

The arrested woman is a resident of Mathugama.

The acid attack was carried out on the mother and the daughter at the Peellagaawa Junction while they were travelling on the Kanangkeh – Puhulhena main road in the night of 17th this month.
