The Police stated that over 300 people have been killed due to accidents caused by drunk driving during the course of the year.

Speaking during a media briefing held at the Police Headquarters today, Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that about 43 thousand 500 drivers have been taken into custody for drunk driving within the year.

He further said that an island wide special operation has been launched today, spanning for the next couple of weeks, to apprehend drunk drivers during the coming festive season.

The Police is implementing a 24-hour special operation to apprehend drunken drivers from today and will continue for two weeks.

Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana speaking to our news team requested from the general public to refrain from drunk driving during the festive season.
