The National Bhikku Council today requested Prime Minister D.M. Jayarathna to make a public announcement if he was not involved in bringing down a container of heroin to the country.

During a media briefing held in Colombo, National Bhikku Council President Rajawatte Vappa Thera made this request from the Premier.

However speaking at a ceremony held in Udahamulla Nugegoda yesterday, the Prime Minister said that certain persons in yellow robes tried to label him a drug kingpin.

He said such persons targeted him after he proposed a special Court to deal with various allegations against monks.

Meanwhile Rajawatte Vappa Thera lamented about the statement made by the Prime Minister in his capacity as Constitutional head and Minister of Buddha Sasana.

The proposal for a special judiciary for monks is the cause to attack me – says PM

The Prime Minister has declared that certain persons in yellow robes has referred to him as a drug addict as a counter-measure for his proposal on a special judiciary for the monks.

The Prime Minister expressed his views regarding the matter while attending a ceremony held at Udagahamulla, Nugegoda yesterday.
