Christians world over celebrate the birth of Christ today.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa in his Christmas message said the festival of Christmas marks the birth of Jesus Christ - the Prince of Peace - who is known for the message of love that transcends all differences in society.
The message states: "The birth of the infant Jesus, the Son of God made man, in a stable in Bethlehem, and lying in a manger in the midst of shepherds and their flock, sends the important messages of simplicity in life, kindness to all, and care for nature and all beings that share this world with us.
This is the beginning of the Christian teaching of universal love and peace among all people that has touched the and minds of millions through history, and remains of great value in the world today.
Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne in his message stated that during this festive occasion Christmas is celebrated marking the wonderful birth of Lord Jesus Christ who bestowed eternal peace and equality to the world with kindness, compassion, mercy and sympathy.
