Sri Lankan permanent representative to the United Nations Dr. Palitha Kohona said that the UN finds it a difficult task to introduce new laws to prevent international terrorism.

Dr. Kohona in his capacity as Chairman of the 6th Committee of the General Assembly is tasked with recommending new laws to prevent global terrorism.

In an interview with Shinhua news agency held at the UN Headquarters in New York, Dr. Kohona said that the UN membership is highly enthusiastic about the proposed anti terrorism global laws.

The new laws have been debated in depth, and the setting up of a global convention against international terrorism and the prevention of nuclear terrorism are top on agenda of the Committee headed by Dr. Kohona.

Dr. Kohona told Shinhua correspondent that the task of preparing the global convention against international terrorism is lagging behind for over 10 years.

He told the enthusiasm got momentum after the 9/11 attacks but later it has gradually faded away.

Dr. Kohona also said that many talk about a global war against terrorism but there is no global convention against such menace.
