Within the past 24 hours about 279 persons have been admitted to the Accident Ward at Colombo National Hospital due to various accidents.

Compared to last year the rate has increased by 3%.

However, it was noted that there were no reports of admissions related to fire cracker accidents at Colombo National Hospital.

Meanwhile, one person was killed and 6 others were injured when a 3 wheeler in which they were traveling and a Kataragama bound semi luxury bus from Colombo collided head on at Henkaduwa Bridge on Tissa Tangalle road this morning.

The ill-fated 3 wheeler was carrying 7 persons of the same family from Galle to Moneragala at the time of the accident.

A 39-year old father died on the spot and his wife and an 11-year daughter were admitted to Matara hospital with severe injuries.

Other victims of the family were admitted to Tangalle hospital.
