Arrest UPFA MP Ranjith Soyza - Forest Officers Association demands
The Resources Conservation Association stated that Ratnapura District UPFA MP Ranjith Soyza should be arrested immediately for interrupting the duty of police officers of Godakawela.
The MP has allegedly forced remove 6 suspects who were arrested by Godakawela police for operating a quarry inside the Bambaragala protected forest with archaeological value in Rakwana.
Acting on a complaint received by the Director General of Forest Conservation, a team of forest officers led by Rakwana Additional Ranger raided the quarry last Monday and arrested the 6 suspects and a lorry load of stones to Godakawela police station.
Resources Conservation Association Secretary Lalith Gamaga charges that MP Ranjith Soyza has forcefully removed the suspects as well as the lorry load of stones from police custody.
When contacted Ratnapura District MP Ranjith Soyza said that the forest officers have raided a legally operated quarry.
However Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that the police have already initiated fresh investigations on the incident.
