The National Safety Commemoration Day coinciding with the 2004 tsunami anniversary is scheduled to be held at the Kalutara District Secretariat.

Prime Minister D. M. Jayaratne will preside at this commemoration.

Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said that this commemoration had been organized under the theme “Let’s mobilize ourselves in unity and unanimously for eradicating disasters”.

The Minister also said that action had been taken for observing a two-minute silence reminiscing the persons killed in the tsunami that held sway over this country on 26th December 2004.

Accordingly the Disaster Management Minister has invited all people to join in this for two minutes from 9.25 to 9.27 this morning.

Meanwhile a religious programme is taking place now for invoking merits on those killed near the Paaraliya railway station during the tsunami.
