Sri Lanka Customs state that 10 ethanol containers have been illegally imported to Sri Lanka during this year.

16 thousand liters of ethanol was confiscated today after the ethanol was discovered inside a container that was in the container depot belonging to the Customs situated in Orugodawatta.

Director General of Sri Lanka Customs Jagath P. Wijeyweera stated that this stock of ethanol has been imported to Sri Lanka from Malaysia.

This stock of ethanol has been imported by a businessman who hails from Borella and he is currently in the custody of the customs.

There were several occasions in the recent past where illegally imported stocks of ethanol were confiscated by the customs.

Sri Lanka Customs states that due to the illegal importation of ethanol the government has lost millions of rupees in terms of import duty.

During an arrest made by the excise department in March 62,000 litres of ethanol was discovered in 310 barrels which were found inside two containers.

Recently Sri Lanka Customs also seized 7 containers of ethanol which were also found in the Orugodawatta Customs Container Depot.

16,000 litres of illegally imported Ethanol which was found inside a container in the Orugodawatta Customs Container Depot has been confiscated.

Director General of Sri Lanka Customs Jagath P. Wijeyweera stated that this lot of ethanol has been imported to Sri Lanka from Malaysia.

The government has lost 10 million rupees in import duty due to this cache of ethanol being illegally imported to Sri Lanka by a businessman hailing from Borella.

There were several instances where ethanol was illegally imported to Sri Lanka in the guise of importing other goods.
