Crisis regarding passing of budgets in TNA controlled local government institutions
Budgets for 2014 were presented in several local government institutions today.
A controversy had occurred during the 2nd vote of the budget presented in the Welwetithurei Municipal Council, in which the Tamil National Alliance holds power.
This municipal council consists of 7 TNA members including the chairman and the opposition consists of 2 members of the UPFA.
During the budget vote, the municipal council chairman Ananda Raj’s supporters had not allowed 5 TNA members to enter the chambers and subsequently the chairman had stated that the budget was approved by a majority vote.
Upon inquiry by our news team TNA Northern Provincial Council Minister M. K. Sivajilingam made the following statement regarding what took place.
The second vote regarding the budget of the Poonaryn Pradeshiya Sabha, in which the TNA holds power was postponed to the 31st of this month after the Deputy Chairman of the PS stated that the proposal was unclear.
Meanwhile, the budget for the Bentota Pradeshiya Sabha was passed with a majority of 3 votes.
However, the deputy chairman of the PS and another UPFA member had voted against the budget.
