Reports state that the US Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs Nisha Desai Biswal is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka next month.
During her visit Biswal will review the progress of implementing measures outlined in the previous resolution on Sri Lanka which was presented by the United States in Geneva.
She will engage in discussions with senior government representatives including Minister of External Affairs Prof. G. L. Peiris.
Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs Karunathillake Amunugama confirmed that the US Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs had requested for a tour of Sri Lanka.
However, the spokesperson for the US embassy in Colombo stated that the tour has not been officially announced yet.
Biswal, a US diplomat of Indian origin, replaced Robert O’ Blake who previously served in this capacity and was sworn in as Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs on the 21st of October this year.
