3 Sri Lankans arrested in Madurei airport with largest haul of gold
3 Sri Lankans were arrested yesterday at the Madurei airport with approximately 2 kilograms of gold.
These Sri Lankans who were detained were traveling in a flight bound for Dubai through Madurei from Colombo.
The value of the cache of gold seized is approximately 3.6 million Indian rupees.
Indian customs officials stated that the gold was discovered after their baggage was x – rayed and it was found to be hidden in the handles of the three trolley cases carried by them.
There were several instances where gold that were being illegally transported was confiscated.
However, in each of those occasions the amount of gold seized was less than 400 grams.
Indian media reports stated that yesterday’s haul of gold was the largest that was seized at the Madurei airport.
