President prepares for a tour of Israel and Palastine
President Mahinda Rajapaksa accompanied by a top delegation, is scheduled to visit Israel and Palestine next month.
During the 4 day visit, President Rajapakse will spend two days in Israel and two days in Palastine and will meet with Isaeli President Shimon Peres and Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas.
Presidential spokesperson Mohan Samaranayaka confirmed that the visit has been scheduled for the month of January.
It is expected that the representatives of each country will hold bilateral talks regarding improving ties between the countries in the fields of agriculture, tourism, trade and jobs.
A bilateral trade agreement was signed between Sri Lanka and Israel last year and several agreements were signed during Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas’ visit to Sri Lanka.
Diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Israel were renewed in 2000 and the two countries collaborate closely on the defence front.
The Kfir strike aircraft and Dvora patrol boats used by the Sri Lankan armed forces are manufactured in Israel.
