Another 22 Indian fishermen arrested; Fisheries organizations suspicious regarding Indo - Lanka discussion
The Sri Lanka Navy has arrested 20 Indian fishermen who had violated the Indo-Sri Lanka maritime boundary line.
Navy Media Spokesperson Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya stated that they were brought to the Kankasanthurai harbour and were handed over to the regional fisheries official.
Meanwhile, The much needed meeting between the fishermen from Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu state of India to find a solution to the nagging issue of fishing rights will finally take place next month.
India's External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid has told a delegation of fishermen from Puducherry that the meeting of Indian and Sri Lankan fishermen will be held on January 20 in Chennai with the agreement of the Tamil Nadu government.
However, Convenor of the National Fisheries Solidarity Movement Herman Kumara stated that their participation at the meeting was not certain.
