The budgets of the UFPA controlled Pradeshiya Sabhas in Ampara Damana and Homagama were defeated today for the second time.
The Damana Pradeshiya Sabha budget was defeated unanimously as no member voted for the budget.
All the 5 members including the deputy Chairman who voted against the budget were from the UPFA.
Another UPFA member abstained from voting while the 2 UNP members walked out during the vote taking.
Meanwhile, Damana Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Mangala Mahinda Gunawardana collapsed just before he was about to address a crowd of his supporters in front of the Pradeshiya Sabha building.
Later he was rushed to Ampara hospital, and a hospital spokesman said that the Chairman’s condition was not critical.
Later the meeting was presided by the Deputy Chairman, and the budget for 2014 was presented.
Meanwhile Homagama Pradeshiya Sabha budget was defeated with 2 majority votes during the second vote taking today.
Ten members voted for the budget while 12 members voted against it when it was presented for the second time.
One UPFA member abstained from voting while 9 of his fellow members and the Deputy Chairman joined their opposition counterparts to vote against the budget.
