Update : Video : Canadian MP's needs cannot be fulfilled - says Army and Police


The Army and police say that they are not ready to fulfill the political games of Canadian visiting MP Rathika Seitsabesan.

The Army and police announced this in response to an earlier statement issued by the visiting MP alleging that Sri Lanka Army and police had put her under house arrest for questioning.

However Canadian Broadcasting Corporation too has quoted the visiting MP saying that she had neither been detained nor questioned by Sri Lankan authorities.

However she had told the broadcaster that she was informed by the Sri Lankan authorities of their readiness to put her under house arrest or deport her in the event she violates the given limit of traverse.

Army Media Spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya said that Army has not questioned the visiting MP whatsoever.

He said the MP’s attempt is to achieve some cheap political gains in order to face the forthcoming Canadian elections.

Police and Army deny reports about keeping a Canadian MP under house arrest in Jaffna.

The Police and the Army deny certain media reports that visiting Canadian MP Radhika Seitsabesan was kept under house arrest.

A local website reported that the visiting MP was put under house arrest in a hotel in Jaffna yesterday.

When our news team contacted Army Media Spokesman Ruwan Wanigasooriya to comment on the matter, he said that the Army has no necessity to put the MP under house arrest.

He labeled the particular news item as false, and said that the army has nothing to question from the visiting MP.

When our news team contacted a senior officer of the Terrorism Investigation Division, he also denied the news.

However the news item quoted Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and Canadian Foreign Affairs Ministry saying that the Sri Lankan government had not issued an arrest warrant on the visiting  MP.

Canadian MP prepares to visit Kilinochchi.

It was reported that the Canadian MP Radhika Sithsabeshan who is touring the island is planning to visit Kilinochchi area.

After arriving in the island last 28th on Tourist Visa, she visited Jaffna yesterday and held a special discussion with the Northern Provincial councillor Anandi Shashidaran.

Born in 1981 in Jaffna, Radhika is the first Tamil MP to enter the Canadian Parliament.

Radhika Sithsabeshan has proposed to the Canadian Parliament to appoint an all party committee to probe regarding the alleged war crimes said to be committed in the country during the last phase of the war.

According to our news correspondent, she is expected to visit Kilinochchi and meet TNA MP S. Sridharan and also tour several religious sites in the area today.

Sri Lankan born Canadian MP in a discussion with the TNA in Jaffna

Canadian MP Radhika Sithsabeshan who is currently touring the island has met with TNA Northern provincial councillor Anandi Shashidharan and held a special discussion in Jaffna.

MP Radhika who was born in 1981 in Jaffna, is the first ever Tamil MP to represent the Canadian parliament.

She arrived in the island on 28th of December.

Radhika Sithsabeshan has proposed to the Canadian Parliament to appoint an All-Party committee to investigate alleged war crimes in Sri Lanka during the war time. She has further stated that she is prepared to take the initiatives.

However, when our news team inquired from the Immigration Emigration Department regarding Canadian MP’s visit, they were not aware of her visit.
