The GMOA asks for the immediate stoppage of the research launched by the National Science Foundation for identifying the cause of the kidney disease spreading in the North Central Province.

Convening a media briefing in Colombo yesterday GMOA media spokesman Dr. Navin de Soysa said that a research like this was not necessary since information with regard to the cause of the disease had come to light as a result of researches carried out up to now.

However he said further that a letter had been addressed to finance ministry secretary Dr. P. B. Jayasundara that the research, if necessary, be carried out under the Health Ministry’s Non-contagious Disease Unit with the 350 million rupee allocation set apart for the project transferred to the Non-Contagious Disease Unit.
